How do I put an existing folder on the desktop?

1. Add a "File widget" from the tray or the widget menu.
2. Choose "Map existing folder" and pick the directory to show.
3. The folder's contents appear in the desktop widget; removing the mapping never deletes files.

Path validation rejects directories that overlap other widgets' mappings, so the same files never appear in two widgets.
